These are the Windows 10 versions Microsoft will soon be killing off

Microsoft has again reminded folks on a trio of older versions of Windows 10 that support is about to expire for them, and they will need to upgrade by the middle of May.

May 11, to be precise, which is when Windows 10 November 2019 Update will reach end of service, along with both versions of Windows 10 from the previous year – the April 2018 Update and October 2018 Update.

The lack of any support means that updates are no longer delivered, including crucial security fixes, so for obvious reasons you need to upgrade to one of the 2020 versions inside the next month.

As Microsoft points out in the reminder: “After that date [May 11], devices running these editions will no longer receive monthly security and quality updates. As always, we recommend that you update your devices to the latest version of Windows 10 as soon as possible to ensure that you can take advantage of the latest features and advanced protections from the latest security threats.”

Time to upgrade

At this point, both 2020 updates are thoroughly tested and established as the leading Windows 10 versions being used, although there’s still a chunk of folks running the November 2019 Update (18.4%, going by the latest AdDuplex stats – with the 2020 versions holding a combined 72% share in comparison).

Of course, all eyes are on the incoming new versions of Windows 10 for 2021 now, including the imminent 21H1 update, which will just be a minor upgrade (for the second time in a row, unusually), and is expected to arrive in May.

The big update this year, however, will be 21H2 debuting at some point in the second half of the year with the major ‘Sun Valley’ interface overhaul among other new features.

Windows Updates

When Microsoft launches a new version of Windows, online criminals quickly find vulnerable areas in the operating system and continue to do so for the lifetime of the version. To counter this, Microsoft releases regular updates – via Windows Update – such as security updates or critical updates, which protect against malware and security exploits.

Other types of updates correct errors or enhance functionality within Windows, and are not necessarily security related. They also detect which Microsoft products you are running on your computer and provide updates to these as well. These may include Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint etc.) and Internet Explorer (your Microsoft browser).

The Risks

Not keeping Windows up to date can result in serious issues, affecting both your computer and your own personal security. These include:

  • Viruses, spyware and other malware.
  • Cyber-criminal attacks.
  • Crashing, freezing and generally poor performance.

As well as resolving security issues, Windows updates frequently contain improvements to the operating system and new features.

Protecting Your Computer

To ensure that the latest Windows updates are downloaded and installed, you should check that your computer is set up as follows:

  • Windows XP
From the Start menu, click ‘Control Panel’. Select ‘Automatic Updates’, then ensure that ‘Automatic (recommended)’ is selected.
  • Windows Vista
From the Start menu, click ‘Control Panel’. Select ‘Security’, then click ‘Turn automatic updating on or off’ (under Windows Update). Ensure ‘Install updates automatically (recommended)’ is selected.
  • Windows 7
From the Start menu, click ‘Control Panel’. Select ‘System and Security’, then click ‘Turn automatic updating on or off’ (under Windows Update). Ensure ‘Install updates automatically (recommended)’ is selected.
  • Windows 8
From the Start menu, click ‘Control Panel’. Select ‘Windows Update’, then click ‘Install optional updates’. In the left pane, ‘click Change settings’. Under Important updates, choose the option that you want. Under ‘Recommended updates’, select the ‘Give me recommended updates the same way I receive important updates’ check box, and then click ‘OK.’  You may be asked for an admin password or to confirm your choice.

You will generally receive a notification from Microsoft in the form of an alert on your screen, that Windows updates are available. Typically, the updates will be downloaded automatically and you will be prompted to re-start your computer in order for them to be installed.

Downloading the latest Windows updates does not negate the need to be running the latest versions of antivirus, antispyware and firewall software.

download the Windows 10 2004 ISO

Now that Microsoft has released Windows 10 2004, otherwise known as the May 2020 Update, new ISO disk images for the operating system are available. As it is always a good idea to have a copy of the Windows 10 media in case you run into boot problems or need to reinstall, we will explain how you can download the Windows 10 2004 ISO directly from Microsoft.

For those not familiar with an ISO image, they are sector-by-sector copies of a DVD that are stored in a disk image file. This ISO file can then be written, or burned, to another DVD to create a replica of the original, mounted as a drive letter in Windows, or extracted by a program like 7-Zip to access the files contained in it.

While Microsoft had finalized the development of Windows 10 version 2004 back in December, it is yet to release it to the public. The Windows maker is likely to ship it on regular schedule, sometime in April or May.

WINDOWS 10 SETUP

Windows 10 Setup

১. 1.8 GHz Processor
২. 2GB RAM
৩. 20GB in C Drive

Step-1: BIOS (BASIC INPUT OUTPUT SYSTEM) Setup

Press any Key To boot From CD or DVD…

। License Agreement আসবে। I accept the License terms

এরপর Next/Enter দিন।

Next/Enter দিন।
